Hey everyone! Happy New Year! Here is a sneak peak of what I have been up to in the last little while. A painting I made of a photo I took in Australia. Isn’t he a cute Koala?
Well this year over all has been a great year! My highlights included getting this website up and running, busking on the streets, the Spring Dance Barn Recital, My “Work In Progress Show,” and of course all the amazing friends and people I met along the way. I started attending a new church, Coastal and have met a bunch of awesome and fun people.
This Year I look forward to more music and art shows, more busking, more dancing and hopefully some more dance performances. Another dancer I know named Rachel Silver and I might do a worship dance at church. Looking forward to that!! Yes I am also considering attending music school at Pacific Life Bible College. They have all sorts of courses in music performance, theory, recording, live sound, private lessons as well as bible and personal growth classes. Also I can take classes at the Dance Barn and get credit for it! So yes I am going to be praying about whether or not I should attend this fall. Pray-ers you can pray along with me;)

So now on to tell you guys what I have been up to in the last few months since my last post. Music is still going great. I’m still waiting to get studio time to finish up my album “Free Child.” I’m feeling this anticipation and eagerness to have it done. Patience patience!! ha ha. The release party will come soon enough. So in the meantime I continue to busk. I made some great money around Christmas. I always get the most tips around Christmas time. Generosity was in the air. Today I did my first busking session of the new year. My neighbour Jacob Vestergaard joined me. He is a great drummer and an amazing artist. I sang with my guitar and he brought his djimbe. Having someone drum with me brought a whole new element to the performance. I felt like I was busking for the first time all over again! That’s the best way I can explain it. We made $17 between the 2 of us that we split 50/50. I didn’t make as much money today but todays busking session was super rewarding. There is something great about doing music in community or with other people. Well yes I am looking forward to a great year of music. I made a facebook music page, don’t forget to “like” it:)

Next is my art and other creative pursuits. I have added feather earrings and cookie baking to my list of pursuits. Stay tuned for a Facebook page showcasing these. Back in November I joined this woman’s business networking group called Diamond Dolls. The group has business networking meetings every 1-2 months. It has been a great experience getting together with other creative business woman and getting support, inspiration and ideas for my own business and creative pursuits. The founder and leader of the Diamond Dolls group, Monika Blichar also runs what’s called the FAB Art Rotation. The FAB is a group of local Vancouver artists that show their art at different locations in the city of Vancouver. Every month the art is rotated around the 7-8 different locations. I am pleased to say that I am now a part of the FAB group. Seven of my paintings are going to be displayed at “Beans on Lonsdale ” a coffee shop on Lonsdale. If you are in the area in the next couple of days come have a look at my work. My paintings will be hanging on the wall close to the washrooms.

So that is me for now. I feel that this year is going to be a great one full of lots of creating!! So how about you? What are your new years goals? If the tasks ahead of you seem too big to handle, remember to break them down into small steps. God has created us for BIG things!! All the best for 2012!!!

My life these days

Hello everyone! Life these days is pretty good. I love where I live, love the neighbours and most I meet in the community from day to day. There are a few out in the community that like to push my buttons but that is life.
So in my first ever blog entry I wrote that the fall was going to be about further pursuing music and art and that dance was going to take more of a back seat with just one ballet class a week. Well that one ballet class turned in to 2 and as well take one jazz class per week. Something inside me just aches and longs to dance and it just has to come out of me. I am not taking classes at the dance barn but taking them at the Harbour Dance Centre in Vancouver. A little closer than Langley:) I look back at the dance barn experience and think about how rewarding it was to be up on stage all dressed up in different costumes. Who know maybe I’ll be heading back to the barn in Fall 2012. It’s too soon to tell.

So yes as for music and art. I am still working on them this fall. In the last little while art has been taking a back seat but I know fresh ideas for more creative artwork will be coming my way. Music is the art form I have been focusing on mainly this fall. I have been doing lots of personal practicing as opposed to shows. Practicing, learning new songs and writing new songs is just as important as going out there and performing. I have to stay fresh with new works. I have been hitting the streets and doing some busking to earn some extra cash(not as much as in the summer) as the weather is getting colder and rainier.

Ok my debut album “Free Child” is almost completed! I have one more song to go and then it’s off to the printing press. Then once they are ready it will be time for a CD RELEASE PARTY!! Yay! I have dreamed about recording and releasing a CD since I was about 11 or 12 years old. Now 14 years later the dream is becoming a reality! Wee can’t wait! Ha ha if I had released a CD at 13 my songs would have probably sounded very immature. I have come a long way in the last 14 years:) So yes tonight I was working on the 5th song for the album. God’s Spirit totally came upon me and helped write some lyrics to “In the Garden.” For those of you who don’t know God really inspires a lot of my writing. You could say God and I write songs together;). So stay tuned for the upcoming release of “Free Child.”

I have finally completed my website! So excited! Yesterday I designed and ordered my business cards through Vista Print. It’s going to be so great to be able to say I have a website and here is my card. And will be even more awesome to have my album all ready and recorded! Little by little, day by day I am getting closer and closer to my goal.

So before I finish this entry I want to talk to you guys about and awesome event that happened this past summer. On july 30th I had my first art and music show, “A Work In Progress.” It was held at the Toast Collective on Kingsway near Fraser. It featured all my art work from the past few year, my photo cards as well as myself on vocals and guitar performing my music. It was a successful event! I sold 5 paintings and several photo cards. I am happy about that because these were my first ever paintings sold in my entire life! The best part about the show was that it was a fun event were my family, friends and some new faces could all get together. Enjoy the photos I have posted of this event. So yes I want to have more of these art and music shows. My “Work in Progress Show” was so much fun!

Well everyone that me for now. I’ll try not to take too long with the next blog post! love and blessings! Here are the photos from my art and music show;

I was created to dance!

Hello everyone! I have just completed my year a the Dance Barn Studios. The dance barn is a dance studio out in Langley, BC and they also have one in Vancouver.  The directors and teachers all have a personal relationship with Jesus and want their students to be trained as dancers who live a life of purity and shake the world around them through dance. This time of going to the dance barn has been as blast. The highlights have included getting trained in 4 styles of dance, contemporary, ballet, jazz and hip-hop, getting to perform some very creative and comical pieces by Olyvia Hudyma my instructor for all 4 classes and getting connected with other dancers and making some friends along the way.

If it’s anything I learned while being here at the barn its that learning to dance can be A LOT of work! Hours and hours of rehearsing can go into what is usually a 2-3 minute dance piece. What the audience sees on stage is just a part of a whole picture, the icing on the cake. There were many times where I didn’t feel like dancing and being in class. I didn’t feel like doing the moves or putting in the effort to really improve myself. But when it came to recital day and I was getting all my costumes together and putting my fake eyelashes and make up on something inside me came alive. When I was all dressed up in all my different outfits for the dance pieces I was like “Yeah this is where I was meant to be.”

! I felt like I was a part of something great. All those hours of rehearsing all seemed worth it.

Most things in life take work! It takes persistence, perseverance, dedication and a lot of doing it even though you don’t feel like it! Faking it until you make it! Giving it your 100% when all you feeling doing is sitting around eating chocolate all day!! ha ha. I feel this way with most things in my life especially when it comes to my creative passions. I have to take a step of faith and put my my paint brush to the canvas even though I’m uncertain of how the painting will turn out or if I will create something of beauty. I have to go out and busk and do gigs with my music even though I may not be the world’s best musician. I have to do what I can while God does what I can’t! I have to choose to dance even though I’m frustrated with not getting the moves all right and perfect. I have to not get discouraged when I’m not quite at the level I want to be. I have to accept the fact that I am a slower learner and it takes much practice and repitition for me to get it.

So yes I have to have faith that one day I will be an amazing dancer. I know I got a late start in life when it came to dancing. I first started formal dance classes at 22 year old with one ballet class a week. I have now been dancing for 3.5 years.  I will keep going until my body won’t let me! I won’t put limits on myself and think that my dance life is over at 35 years. Hey some of the ladies in my classes were in their 40′s. This lady Julie was 42 and pregnant with her 10th child and boy could she do the splits! I may not become a professional ballerina on this side of my life but I’m not letting that discourage me! I’m going to give life my best shot.  If I don’t get every dream and desire fullfilled in this life I know one day God will give me all the desires of my heart.

So yes my time at the dance barn had it ups and it’s challenges but all in all I am glad I did it!  To get to perform in the recitals made it all worth it. I recommend this school to anyone young and old who loves to dance www.dancebarnstudios.com. You don’t have to be a Christian to join the evening classes everyone is welcome!

So yes I love dance and I can’t wait to see where it takes me in the future. I would love to do some dance pieces for my church and some of the local churches around me. I would love to do some worship dance at worship invasion (a young adult worship event that meets every month in the Vancouver area) Also I could see myself dancing on the streets and going overseas with a dance team doing drimes in Brazil or other countries. The sky is the limit!! Let’s see what the future holds.

Hello world!

Hey everyone! Welcome to my first blog post! I dove into web design classes at Emily Carr University about a month or so ago and so far so good. Mywebsite is still in the works and should be completed very soon. Normally I would shy away from designing my own web page but taking these web design classes at Emily Carr has really helped me to realize that I can do it! Of course I am getting a bit of outside help from some friends;) Thank-you Barbara and Anthony!

Lately I have been realizing more fully that my life is a process. My art, dance, music and creative passions are all a continual process of growth and renewal. Everyday I am learning, growing and changing. I have been very inspired by the art classes I have been taking here at Emily Carr. Most of the art teachers here are all professional artists and have a real passion for what they do. They transfer their passion for art onto their students.  I have decided that I want to get more serious about being an artist. I want to make my art and music a career and lifestyle. Yes I have decided in the next while that I want to focus on art and music. I love dance as well and have been taking hip-hop, ballet, jazz and contemporary at the “Dance Barn” in Langley(www.dancebarnstudios.com). I have been enjoying the process of being refined in these dance styles and I totally came alive when I got to perform 3 dance pieces in the Dance Barn’s December recital.

Yes I have decided that my next season should be about putting time into my art and music. I won’t forget about dance. For the fall I plan to enroll in one ballet class in Vancouver. And in the years ahead I will enroll in classes at the Dance Barn again and will enjoy being refined in a bunch of different dance styles. For now I sense that it’s time to take music and art more seriously. There is a time to embrace and a time to refrain:)

So this fall I am going to get to work and aim to finish recording my debut CD. I am also going to join the North Shore Artist’s guild and join a weekly painting group. I want to get back into music lessons and get a whole new set of songs prepared for going out and doing gigs. The sky is the limit with these creative passions! I am going to continue to dream and dream BIG! I am going to put my trust in God everyday to refresh and inspire me! I love this wonderful adventure called life. I can’t wait to see what’s around the next corner! Things are looking great:)
